The approximately 50 children and teenagers of our mentorship program in Korogocho live together with their families in a very small space. In most cases, the tin huts offer only one room, which is also used as a living room, dining room and bedroom.
We want to offer the children and young people a place of retreat – not only to do homework and read together, but also to develop and shape their lives there. To this end, we at Smiles Africa Charity have already organised an old ship container and started to convert it into a small library with furniture and used books.
We want to expand our container to make it not only weatherproof and safe, but also a library and place for learning and creative freedom. It is therefore necessary to modify the container so that it can be ventilated and kept cool on hot days. Other furniture, handicraft materials, books and electricity are also needed. In addition, we would like to hire a tutor for teaching in the container for the coming year.
As you can see, there is a lot to do and we would be happy if you support us in our goal of the #container library!
